I’ve been curious about computer remote controls for a while because I’ve seen these as the best solution for controlling the media player software while in bed. I enjoy watching rented movies on my computer and I’m one of those people who need to focus on the action from start to end in order to get all the feelings that a movie sends. Still, many times we need to go to the bathroom, make some popcorn, or drink some water during the movie. When that happens, we have to pause the video, while other times, we want to adjust the volume so we won’t disturb others in the home. One of my issues is that sometimes I have things on my mind and can’t concentrate on the movie so I need to play the missed part again. For all of these cases which require us to get up, turn the monitor to one side and use the mouse to pause the player, let me suggest you to get a PC remote control like the one I’m reviewing today. It saves a lot of time without getting you out of the mood.
This PC remote is not only affordable but also smaller than a regular TV remote. It’s lightweight and very easy to use. It relies on the infrared technology to control the computer from any position within 18 meters, as long as the remote points to the receiver, just like a TV remote. The included receiver is the piece that enables this wireless control of the PC and has to be connected to one of the available USB ports.
Another thing I love about this remote is that it doubles as a computer mouse, without the need of a pad or a surface beneath. All the functions of a mouse – the large, blue button that works as a joystick – and remote are under your fingertips.
I recommend placing the receiver close to the monitor, so you can reach it from the bed/sofa. It’s not like Bluetooth, which works from any position.
The remote doesn’t require any software installation, working out of the box, on any Windows system, and has buttons dedicated for controlling media players (volume, play/pause, stop, previous/next, forward/backward), and for writing text and compose emails or browse the web. You can also combine buttons to perform advanced functions such as set hotkeys. There are also dedicated buttons for power, email, Internet, Page Up/Page Down, Mute, Desktop, etc.. I didn’t find anything that’s missing and the instructions sheet shows everything you need to know.
I want to thank Tmart for providing the review sample.
